The rj-45 connector got so corroded after being outside for 9 months that one of the pins broke preventing the whole unit from powering on. As a result, I needed to replace the connector, but found that the wiring was a non standard color scheme.
So to determine how to splice the wires of a new connector to the original cabling, I used a continuity tester with fine point probes on each remaining pin of the old connector to see the wiring order. After mapping out the color order, I could solder and heat shrink the conductors.
